Folic Acid (Folate)

Folic acid or folate is a water-soluble B vitamin also known as vitamin B9. Folate occurs naturally in some foods, such as green leafy vegetables, yeast, mushrooms, bananas, meat, and more. Folic acid is the supplement form of folate. Folic acid is extremely important for proper growth and development of the human body. It is needed for many of the body’s processes, including the production of DNA.

Folic acid is extremely important for women before and after becoming pregnant, since the development of the child depends on this vitamin for its key actions in human physiology. This B vitamin is also very important for fertility in women and men, as you can imagine. Folic acid reduces homocysteine levels, which can promote good cardiovascular health and decrease inflammation.
